Finding out you’re pregnant while you’re in college can bring a lot of questions all at once.
What about my classes? Where will I live? Can I afford a baby? What will my family say? Can I still graduate?
If you’re asking these questions, take a breath. Getting pregnant in college does not mean you have to give up your education or your future.
In fact, with the right support, you can continue your education while preparing for motherhood.
Can You Stay in College If You Get Pregnant?
Yes. Your pregnancy doesn’t have to mean the end of your college journey. Every student’s situation is different, and you may be able to continue taking classes throughout your pregnancy or explore options such as adjusting your course load or taking a temporary leave.
The first step is to learn what resources are available to you through your school and your community.
What About Housing?
Housing can be one of the biggest concerns for a pregnant college student. Traditional college residence halls often aren’t designed for moms and babies, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have options.
MiraVia’s College Residence provides a safe, supportive home specifically for pregnant and parenting college students.
Located on the campus of Belmont Abbey College near Charlotte, North Carolina, MiraVia welcomes eligible students from accredited colleges, universities, and trade schools across the United States. You can continue attending the school of your choice, either online or in person, while living at MiraVia.
Residents receive a private suite, meals, childcare, baby supplies, life-skills support, and a community of other student moms, all at no cost.
What If I’m Scared I Can’t Do Both?
That’s understandable.
College is already a lot. Add pregnancy, a baby, finances, and figuring out your next steps, and it can feel overwhelming.
But you don’t have to figure out your entire future today.
Start with one question at a time:
Where can I live?
How will I continue school?
What support is available?
Who can I talk to?
Having people in your corner can make a huge difference.
At MiraVia, student moms live alongside one another, build friendships, receive parenting support, and have access to resources designed to help them stay focused on their education and their children.
You Don’t Have to Choose Between Being a Mom and Being a Student
If you’re pregnant in college, you may feel like your plans have suddenly changed.
They may change, but your dreams don’t have to disappear.
MiraVia’s College Residence exists to help pregnant and parenting students continue their education, prepare for motherhood, and build a future for themselves and their children.
You can be a mom. You can be a student. You can work toward your degree. And you don’t have to do it alone.
