1. Your College Can’t Discriminate Against You
Whether you attend a private or public school, your college can’t discriminate against you due to Title IX. This is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on sex, including pregnancy or parental status, in educational programs and activities.
In addition to allowing you to participate in classes, your college must provide you with reasonable and necessary adjustments, such as a larger desk, elevator access, and more frequent trips to the restroom.
Your college also must excuse your absence due to pregnancy or childbirth as long as a doctor says it’s necessary and allow you to return to the same academic and extracurricular status as before you left. You should be given an opportunity to make up any missed work or credits.

If you are located in Charlotte, NC, or can relocate, consider applying for MiraVia’s College Residence. While our residence is on Belmont Abbey College’s campus, women may attend the college of their choosing while in our program.
MiraVia also offers an Outreach Center in our local area for women who choose parenting and need material assistance. This program also provides a peer support network, life-skill classes, and more.
