MiraVia offers two programs to serves moms on campus, and moms in our community – our Outreach Center and College Residence. Both programs offer free material assistance

Eligibility & Application Requirements
Am I eligible for the College Residence?
If you are pregnant and enrolled in college or a new mom in college with a baby under the age of one, MiraVia’s College Residence may be the right place for you as you navigate through your pregnancy and continue your education. MiraVia is here to help you and your baby. We provide housing, support, and resources so you can continue your education while preparing for motherhood.
Eligibility criteria for the program:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be enrolled in a higher education program
- Must be pregnant or have a child up to one year of age
- No history of drug abuse
- Clear criminal background check
- Must have own transportation
- Must successfully complete application and interview process

What are the enrollment requirements for living at MiraVia?
Our College Residence is open to current college students who are pregnant or new moms in college with a baby under the age of one. Because our program is tailored specifically for active students, we verify eligibility during the interview process to ensure MiraVia is the right fit for your goals. Applicants must provide:
- Proof of college enrollment (at an accredited college, university, trade school, or online program)
- A current class schedule
- A written plan outlining your academic and personal goals
What if I already have a child? Are they eligible for the College Residence program?
Yes. To be eligible, you must either be currently pregnant or have a baby under one year old. If you are a pregnant college student or new mom in college who also has an older toddler (up to age 4), you may still be eligible. MiraVia has specially designed rooms to accommodate mothers with both an infant/unborn child and an older toddler.
How many children can live with me at MiraVia?
MiraVia’s College Residence can accommodate a mother with up to two children. Our private suites are specifically designed to safely and comfortably hold a mother, her newborn/infant, and (if applicable) one older toddler up to age 4. Due to space constraints and safety guidelines, we are unable to house families with three or more children.
Are there any fees involved?
No. All of MiraVia’s services through both the College Residence and the Outreach Center are completely free of charge.
Living at MiraVia & Student Support
What kind of support will I get while living at MiraVia?
Residents at the College Residence receive more than just free housing. MiraVia is here to help you balance motherhood and college life with confidence. Support includes:
- A private suite for you and your baby

- Peer support from other student moms

Is housing private or shared?
Housing at MiraVia is private. Each mother has her own fully furnished bedroom and bathroom for herself and her baby. Shared areas such as the study, nursery, dining room, laundry, and living spaces encourage community while still giving you the privacy and independence you need.
Do you provide childcare?
Yes. MiraVia’s College Residence offers on-site childcare so our student moms can attend classes, study, or work knowing their baby is in a safe and nurturing environment. Our staff provides loving care during the day, giving you the support you need to focus on your education while still being close to your child.
What is daily life like at the College Residence?
Life at MiraVia’s College Residence is designed to be safe, supportive, and community oriented. Each resident has a private room and bathroom for herself and her child, while also enjoying shared spaces such as the study, nursery, dining room, laundry, and living areas. Our kitchen manager prepares nutritious meals each day, and residents enjoy eating together as a community.
You’ll also have access to:

Length of Stay & Pregnancy Timeline
Can I live at MiraVia during my entire pregnancy?
Yes. Pregnant college students are welcome to live at MiraVia’s College Residence for the duration of their pregnancy. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive housing environment while you continue your education. After your baby is born, you may also remain in the program with your child so you can continue your education and college goals.
Can I stay at MiraVia after my baby is born?
Yes. Student moms continue to live at MiraVia’s College Residence with their babies after birth. We offer each mom their own private, family-friendly room, ongoing material assistance, and a community of support so you can focus on parenting and finishing your degree. This long-term support gives you the stability you need to further your education while we provide everything needed for you to stay in school and care for your child.
How long can I stay at MiraVia’s College Residence?
Our primary goal is to support you all the way through to graduation. Pregnant students or new moms in college can move in during pregnancy and remain in the program after their baby is born. Because every student’s academic journey is unique, each mom’s length of stay is determined on a case-by-case basis to align with her individual degree plan and goals. Throughout your stay, MiraVia staff will work with you one-on-one to provide day-to-day stability, support your college progress, and help plan for a smooth, successful transition as you prepare for graduation.
Getting to Know MiraVia’s College Residence
Is MiraVia a college or university?
No. MiraVia is a supportive residential program for college student moms, not an academic institution. While our residence is located on the campus of Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC, residents can attend any accredited college, university, or trade school – online or in person. We provide free housing, meals, childcare, and personal support so you can focus on earning your degree at the school of your choice that best fits your career goals.
Is MiraVia’s College Residence an emergency shelter or crisis housing?
No. MiraVia is a structured, long-term residential program for student moms, not an emergency shelter. While room, board, and supportive services are provided at no cost, living at MiraVia is a commitment to a full program designed to help you succeed in school and parenting. Residents actively pursue a college degree, participate in life-skills workshops, and work closely with our staff toward personal and academic goals.
Does MiraVia have locations or provide direct services in other states?
No. MiraVia’s College Residence and physical facility is located exclusively in North Carolina (on the campus of Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC, near Charlotte). We currently do not operate residences or direct outreach programs in other states. However, pregnant college students or new moms in college from any state are welcome to move to North Carolina and live at our residence while pursuing their degree.
What if I don’t live in North Carolina?
You can still apply to MiraVia’s College Residence program. Many of our residents have come from out of state and even from outside the U.S. to receive housing and support while continuing their education. If you’re a pregnant college student or new mom in college looking for a safe place to live and thrive, MiraVia can be an option no matter where you’re from.
Do I have to attend Belmont Abbey College while in the College Residence program?
No. While MiraVia’s College Residence is located on the Belmont Abbey College campus, residents may attend:
- Any college or university in the Charlotte area (over a dozen are nearby)
- Vocational or technical schools
- Accredited online degree programs

What is the Outreach Center?
MiraVia’s Outreach Center in Charlotte, NC provides free, long-term support for pregnant women in need within our community. For a full year, moms receive meaningful help through long-term support groups, parenting resources, and material assistance.
Our Outreach Center provides:

- Referrals to adoption agencies (if desired)
