What is the Outreach Center?

MiraVia’s Outreach Center in Charlotte, NC provides free, long-term support for pregnant women in need within our community. For a full year, moms receive meaningful help through long-term support groups, parenting resources, and material assistance.

Our Outreach Center provides:

  • Peer support
  • Life-skills classes in a supportive group setting
  • Material support for both mom and baby
  • Community resources
  • Referrals to adoption agencies (if desired)

What Material Support Does MiraVia offer?

MiraVia offers two programs to serves moms on campus, and moms in our community – our Outreach Center and College Residence. Both programs offer free material assistance

FAQs for College Residence

Am I Eligible for the College Residence?

If you are pregnant and enrolled in college, MiraVia’s College Residence may be the right place for you as you navigate through your pregnancy and continue your education. MiraVia is here to help you and your baby. We provide housing, support, and resources so you can continue your education while preparing for motherhood.

Eligibility criteria for the program:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be enrolled in a higher education program
  • Must be pregnant
  • No history of drug abuse
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Must have own transportation
  • Must successfully complete application and interview process

Are there any fees involved?

No. All of MiraVia’s services through both the College Residence and the Outreach Center are completely free of charge.

What if I don’t live in North Carolina?

You can still apply to MiraVia’s College Residential Program. Many of our residents have come from out of state and even from outside the U.S. to receive housing and support while continuing their education. If you’re a pregnant college student looking for a safe place to live and thrive, MiraVia can be an option no matter where you’re from.

Do I have to attend Belmont Abbey College while in the College Residential program?

No. While MiraVia’s College Residence is located on the Belmont Abbey College campus, residents may attend:

  • Any college or university in the Charlotte area (over a dozen are nearby)
  • Vocational or technical schools
  • Accredited online degree programs

What if I already have a child? Are they eligible for the College Residential program?

Pregnant college students who already have a toddler under the age of 4 may also be eligible. MiraVia has rooms designed to accommodate these situations.

Can I live at MiraVia during my entire pregnancy?

Yes. Pregnant college students are welcome to live at MiraVia’s College Residence for the duration of their pregnancy. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive housing environment while you continue your education. After your baby is born, you may also remain in the program with your child so you can continue your education and college goals.

Can I stay at MiraVia after my baby is born?

Yes. Student mothers continue to live at MiraVia’s College Residence with their babies after birth. We offer each mom their own private, family-friendly room, ongoing material assistance, and a community of support so you can focus on parenting and finishing your degree. This long-term support gives you the stability you need to further your education while we provide everything needed for you to stay in school and care for your child.

What is daily life like at the College Residence?

Life at MiraVia’s College Residence is designed to be safe, supportive, and community oriented. Each resident has a private room and bathroom for herself and her child, while also enjoying shared spaces such as the study, nursery, dining room, laundry, and living areas. Our kitchen manager prepares nutritious meals each day, and residents enjoy eating together as a community.

You’ll also have access to:

Do you provide childcare?

Yes. MiraVia’s College Residence offers on-site childcare so our student moms can attend classes, study, or work knowing their baby is in a safe and nurturing environment. Our staff provides loving care during the day, giving you the support you need to focus on your education while still being close to your child.

Is housing private or shared?

Housing at MiraVia is private. Each mother has her own fully furnished bedroom and bathroom for herself and her baby. Shared areas such as the study, nursery, dining room, laundry, and living spaces encourage community while still giving you the privacy and independence you need.

How long can I stay at MiraVia’s College Residence?

Pregnant students may move into MiraVia’s College Residence during pregnancy and remain in the program after their baby is born. Residents can stay with us until their child turns 2 years old, giving moms valuable time to adjust to motherhood while continuing their education. MiraVia staff will work with you individually to support your college goals and help plan for a smooth, successful transition when the time comes.
